Today we’re are going to be talking about the germs, and how hand washing will help keep away the germs.

The pepper will be the germs and the dish soap will be our cleaning agent.

let the experiment begin!

What we need:

  • pepper

  • water

  • dish soap

  • cotton buds

  • shallow water

All our things we need.

What to do:

  1. Place about half a inch of water into a shallow container.

  2. Sprinkle some black pepper over the water.

  3. Place some dish soap onto the table or plate, then dip your cotton bud into the dish soap.

  4. place your cotton bud onto the black pepper.

  5. Watch to see the reaction.

If you want to record what you think my happen before you do the science experiment feel free to do so, we will be doing this as we’re going to talk about out come.

What my kids believe will happen:

(IR) believes the pepper will run away from the soap.

(B) thinks the soap will disappear and the pepper will stay.

Our Outcome:

After a few tries we realised that both kids were right, IR‘s first attempt the pepper ran away from the soap, but when B tried the pepper had sank to the bottom and the soap just dissolved. We then done it again and again and learnt the less pepper the better but we could only get one try before having to wash it out and start again.

Pouring in water

Add the pepper

Soap on end of cotton bud

Pepper ran away from cotton bud with soap
